I haven't tried renting a boat there, but there's an awesome member who hosts a YSA party there a few times a year. It isn't the greatest water, but there aren't any great locations for water in Houston.

You could rent a boat to kayak down the Bayous. Always fun.

Galveston definitely could be a good option. The water is always nice and warm, although brown due to the Mississippi river drainage.

If you're looking for something like Sand Hollow or Lake Mead or Powell, I don't think that exists near Houston
