Tennessee did a similar event the last 2 years but it was only in the state of Tennessee. The first one was 119 boxes to celebrate their 119th year of football. Last year they did 120 boxes...but there is no marketing or advertising for it occurring this year.
I would think that if they found the scavenger hunt to be successful or had people from other areas or out of state as passionate about wondering when their favorite team was going to bring it to their state that perhaps they would have spun that out to a bigger scope like BYU50.
For the grief we give some of the whiners their "input" (whines) actually have been listened to and more drops are occurring in some locations, international drops are happening, and some locations take first 3-5 people and have them do additional contests to get the box and there have even been runner up prizes in the way of t-shirts, etc.
If a big SEC team like Tennessee had as passionate fans as BYU why would they have stopped their hunt already?
If other teams had fans as passionate and they see Tennessee give it a try and BYU make it wildly successful why wouldn't those fans of other teams be out there bugging their AD to do something similar?
