Debilitating pain. It was a chore just for him to wake up and walk to the bathroom Brady could jump out of bed like a spry little elf. So yeah Luke probably needed to be motivated. When everyday you were becoming more and more disabled,you don't really have a desire to get up and do the thing that's making you more and more disabled. Maybe someone should karate chop Brady in the throat every day before he has to get ready to do his radio show and see how eager he is to start talking every day. Then, while he's talking on the air he should get a couple more karate chops to the throat and see if he wants to keep being a radio host. I'm guessing his co-host will think "geee, I've got to motivate Brady everyday he sure doesn't want to talk very much for some reason".
