Older couple (70's) next door had two pairs of solar glasses, so my wife and kid and me stood at the backyard fence and shared a few peaks. The older lady is notorious for finding things wrong with my yard and how it ruins her yard.

Just as we were hitting peak coverage, things got dark, quiet and reflective, and all of us silently passed around the glasses. Then...she spoke...

"Your weeds along this fence line are starting to look like trees."

Awkward 20 second silence as I peered at the wonder before me....then...

"And they are causing an elm beetle infestation in our house."

More awkward silence as I tried to focus on the celestial glory without laughing out loud. After all I was wearing her glasses.

The poor husband was embarrassed as he knew the moment was lost. He's heard this shtick for 50 years.

Then I simply handed over the glasses and thanked them for the experience.

I'll be pulling the six inch weeds tomorrow. Bless her heart.
