We called it the Bronco dreamkiller talk. When my son attended a summer camp at
BYU one of the last things was to meet with Bronco in a big group in the stadium. He told the kids something like this:
(all numbers are dreamt up, but he had the hard data)
1% of you will go on and play D1 ball after HS
1% of those will get a shot at the NFL
.01% of those will get an NFL paycheck
10% of those will last more than 3 years in the NFL
Of the 10% that last, 80% will be out of the NFL, broke, divorced and addicted to painkillers by year 5.
Have a nice day, grab an ice cream on the way out.
As a parent, I didn't have a problem with it.
