the sheer number of wins becomes less important than quality wins or stinker losses. There are just far more teams in BB, and a lot of teams that win a ton of games vs mediocre (or inferior) competition that just don't get the selection committee excited. Much like it used to take a lot lower GPA / SAT to get in to BYU in yrs past as opposed to now when those who get in have to compare their resume and compete with a lot of candidates with as good as or better resumes.
