Has CTE negatively affected your attraction to football, and other sports where
the participants will, by the design of the sport, potentially suffer permanent brain injury? I'm talking about any sport, regardless of level. It's taken me a couple years, but CTE has taken a shine off the sport. I know the participants go into it willingly, knowing they're sacrificing their bodies and risking permanent injury. But isn't there a duplicity on my part for buying a ticket, fan gear, or supporting the game financially? If there were no scholarships, I'm sure there would be players willing to play. There are plenty of colleges that don't offer scholarships that do field teams. I am having a hard time watching people like Jim McMahon and many other players disintegrate physically and mentally. I watch the guys on the field like Taysom and Tanner and I wouldn't want them to suffer traumatic brain injury, but I root for them anyway, knowing all the while that the longer they play the more likely they'll suffer permanent brain injury.

How do you justify cheering on players that will probably suffer permanent traumatic brain injury for doing the thing you're cheering them on to do? I've been bothered by this for the past couple years, it's not just a product of the recent furor over the whole national anthem thing.

BTW, I looked for a general sports topic, but all I found were topics too specific for a general question. Weird.
