I've refrained from posting on caffeine for a long time.
When Dining Services decided to sell Coca-Cola beverages with caffeine it came as a great surprise and disappointment to many. More explanation was wanted--an actual conversation.

While eating tea and crumpets in the Delta Sky Lounge, I frequently eavesdrop on the conversations of people of importance. I can tell you from this personal knowledge that many find this new access to caffeine highly distasteful. The majority of concerned important people worry that this is a slippery slope. Our ability to continue to compete at an elite level for the Stone-Cold Sober rankings is in doubt. Some are already saying that beer trucks have been sighted on campus.

But the genie is out of the bottle. You can wait until you're blue in the face, but caffeinated beverages seem to be BYU's destiny.

Enjoy this unique time in BYU history. It's not changing any time soon.

As for Dean Wright, director of Dining Services, the Sky Lounge consensus is that he has at least four years. Let's hope he rights the ship he himself veered off course. But at this point, caffeine availability is NOT related to BYU mint brownies. (Although don't be surprised if the next home game features cougartails with coffee frosting. I'm not claiming insider knowledge, but I overheard an executive-level conversation while eating my Porky's Poutine a week ago.)
