I'll repost this Monday because I doubt anyone is online right now, but I saw a recruit scrimmaging with the team this afternoon for about 10 minutes.
He's a high school junior from Albany, NY, named Jimmer Fredette. If you Google the name there's plenty of links about him, and a video from a news broadcast.
I was going to play ball in the RB, and the team was practicing where I usually play. So I caught the last part of it and ended up chatting with Jimmer's mom.
He's a white kid, 6'1" or so, and was playing PG against Austin Ainge. He put on a couple of nice moves on Austin and hit two mid-range shots, missed a 3, and set up Mike Rose nicely for 2 three's in the little I saw of him. He seemed comfortable out there and I was impressed.
His mom said they've had phone calls from Georgetown, Syracuse, Providence, UMass, etc. He's also had DI offers as a WR but prefers basketball. Didn't ask if he was mission bound, but he is LDS. He played with the team yesterday, and will again tomorrow.
I told her that it was my independent, unbiased opinion that those schools don't hold a candle to BYU. She laughed but said that he likes BYU, his sister went here, and they followed the season on Full Court and came out for a game. So they're familiar with the program and we'll see if Dave Rose can sell it.
It seems like he'd be a solid recruit for us. Here's a link to a video about him. Scroll down to Jimmer Fredette.
