BYU fans retain hope we can turn it around in a down year, while those fanbases that hate the BYU brand like to see the dumpster fire IMO. BYU's TV product on a down year is still more valuable than that of the lower echelon P5's and upper echelon G5's during a good year.
Hell we're 1-6 and ya'll are still hanging out talking about football after work...and even if you lose out, you'll still watch to the bitter end IMO and so will Utah/Utah state fans because
#NobodyCaresMore. Thats at least 3 fanbases following BYU. Now if we have 4 consecutive horrible seasons, then yes the viewership will dip, but we can worry about that after BYU extends their contract through 2023 w/ ESPN next year.
