I know I'm nuts, but it seems rational to me.
Why would a screaming kid bother me?
1 - he/she wants me to do something that I'd rather not do.
2 - I can't think of anything else.
If nothing is required of me, I can actually even smile a little. I'm not a hateful person and I try to wish the best for most people, but I sometimes secretly enjoy knowing that someone else has to deal with the crying while I can lazily sit back and do nothing. I've joked with my wife over the years that I'd love to have a soundtrack of other people's kids crying to help me relax and fall asleep at night.
Of course, she always reminds me that I seem to sleep right through our own kids screaming in the middle of the night too.
