the marriage and the lack of kids is an issue but I've known guys who were down for years after their girlfriend dumped them, let alone had issues with their wives. And, in a culture in which successful marriage as important as ours, it's easy (for me at least) to see how even a short, childless marriage that ended in divorce could lay a guy very, very low.
