It wouldn’t be G5 suicide. Nothing would change for your perception.
You’re already not in a P5 conference. Everyone sees Independence for BYU as a dead end road, even your current AD and former head coach, who know the program better than anyone.
Of course a P5 conference is the end goal, but guess what? It’s not up to BYU to make that decision. You can’t force your way in, which is what BYU has been trying to do (unsuccessfully) since 2011.
BYU has the history and resources to dominate that level of football. And the ability to be in the mix in the national discussion from time to time. And maybe, someday, a P5 invite may happen. But get yourself in a healthier spot to wait for that day. This is not it.
