Upon Further Reflection, Ty is the only person I can admire in all this.
Kalani's disapproval of Ty has been obvious since at least game 2 at LSU. He focused his blame on the offense when the defense had been equally inept. I'm not saying Ty wasn't given a fair shake before or even after LSU. I don't have enough information to make that assessment. It's certainly presumptuous to assume Kalani was deliberately seeding fan discontent for Ty. His blaming of the offense was probably just expressing frustration with what he saw as the biggest problem.

Whatever Kalani's motives, his role in this has been very disappointing. Generally, ragging on a problem will rarely solve it. Effective leadership acknowledges the weakness and then engages everyone to minimize the impact. This year the problem became an excuse for everyone else to give up. In Crowton's final years the offense was inept, but Bronco's defense was stalwart. If I recall correctly there were games where the defense scored more than the offense. It happened again several years ago when we had an awesome defense with Ziggy and Van Noy paired with a do nothing offense. In this case, Ty struggled while everyone else took a break and pointed their fingers at the weak link. Kalani has a history of being a good guy. I'm hopeful he will recognize that he was part of the problem.

Ty certainly knew his swan song had begun when he made this comment in mid-October: "There are people out there who’d probably want to see me resign at this point, but those are probably people who quit on their team in high school, or whatever if they played."

Ty offense was awful and he knew it. His boss visibly given up on him. Yet for months he avoided publicly badmouthing anyone, including Kalani, his offensive position coaches, or his players. All certainly deserve a share of the blame. Ty might not be a great offensive coordinator, but he was the better coach this season.

This isn't about whether he should be fired or not. Its about resigning. Ty (ColonelMustard, Oct 23, 2017 at 6:30pm)
