I’m not sure the attempts mean much.
We are playing at a much slower pace with less possessions, so you’d assume the attempts would automatically be reduced.
Now, if teams were shooting a much lower percentage than last year, we’d be in business! That’s not happening though.

We were probably about 50th until the 2nd half of tonight’s game

1st half or 2nd half? JK. Yea. That's a depressing stat. What about offense?

Improvement so far. 86th last year 63rd right now.

They are much better in two key areas

Their effective FG% defense is 2.5% worse this year and 3pt% defense is 3.5% worse

a lot of analytics guys think 3pa is a great defensive measure. Having teams

He reported it as 3PA/FGA. Seems that normalizes for pace.

I raised that question this morning. Not really sure the answer.

I think BYU's defense has improved from where it was to start the season
Indy Coug

I'm not saying that BYU won't end up being better than last year once the season is done

Where was BYU's defense at this point in the season last year?

I think there are a lot of narratives at play here too.

I've seen people post about this 100 times on the board.

There has to be something limiting 3s that isn't caught statistically.

Last year, 32.6% of our opponents' points came from 3s. This year, it's 29.4%
Indy Coug

I would have guessed a much bigger delta. wonder if it will increase over the year with more WCC teams.

what were they at this point last year?

But taking this back to the OP, since Pomeroy adjusts for SOS, this is largely irrelevant.
