called Hidden in the Heartland. Pretty good. It just never made sense to me that the Hill Cumorah is in upstate NY, the plates are there, etc., and we're supposed to believe the Nephites traveled thousands of miles up there when exactly? The final battles took place at that hill, so it really seems like the Hill Cumorah is a strong geographic marker.
Hugh Nibley in Approach to the Book of Mormon also touched on it a bit. I don't remember all the details, but one thing he said is many times the term wilderness is used. When we think of wilderness what do we think of? Lush jungles in Mesoamerica, or the dried prairies of middle America? Just one point I know. Plus, I believe the promised land is North America. This is where the Gospel was restored, the Church was restored, the Priesthood, the plates were found, etc. I'm not saying South America is chopped liver, but North America has been different and blessed above others, so when in the BOM it talks about the covenants associated with the land, to me it screams North America.
