I wonder how much of Utah's ranking is impacted by higher marriage rates.
Utah has far and away the largest household size. In part due to kids but also because of higher instances of marriage and fewer instances of divorce.
All that may mean a whole lot more 2 income households that skew the data in the context of this conversation.
This would seem to support that thought. Utah falls dramatically when you look at median wage and not median household income:
