I've hunted my entire life. I've found that it isn't cost effective if you count
gas, gear, licenses, etc. Maybe it depends on where you live and where you're travelling to, if you inherited equipment, your success rate, etc. I did kill an elk last year as well and I am loving the meat. Elk is the most cost effective. Other animals not so much.

Hunting literally involves killing an animal. And most hunters do it for recreation. So yeah... not really a stretch.
