It wasn’t just the physicality.
It was the blatant fouls.

To start the game, every drive the BYU player was getting ripped on the forearm and elbow, but no calls.

At one point one of the players was holding the ball right in front of himself and was clearly slapped on the forearm twice in a row, but no calls.

This reminded me of a football DB deciding that they aren’t going to call PI every play, so they’re just going be overly physical and absorb a couple of calls early.
