of Paul's own internal conflict on screen? I understand your issue with her not getting on board, but remember how much he talked to her about his own hesitation and doubt about it all. And even talked about how many would die if he went there. I think you absolutely had to have a character who wasn't all in to fully capture the contrasting feelings. I actually think it worked well to have it be her. There was always a bit of mistrust hovering between them. It worked ok for me.
CW was NOT the right guy for the emperor. It came off too much like a cheesy SuperBowl commercial.
I agree that the last hour turned it from good, cinematically beautiful and well-done to epic.
