He was a sad and disturbed guy though whether you consider him an artistic genius or not. I don’t know if I consider him that but his ability to translate his rage or depression or whatever you want to call it into song was pretty amazing and it kicked off years of rock bands suddenly being in touch with their feelings whether they were angry like grunge bands or they were emo or they were just being sentimental about their girl.
I sometimes wonder what he’d be like today if he were still around. Would he have just mellowed like Eddie Vedder and occasionally surfaced to make his thoughts known on this or that? I think that’s the most likely road. It would be a big shame to not have all that Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl have done, although I could see him eventually parting ways and doing his own thing regardless.
