Relief joints in concrete steps?
Contractor poured two concrete steps that wrap around one corner of our house. One one side of this corner they are about 11 feet wide, then the two steps wrap around the other side of the corner and go about 9 feet. Each step down from the house to the grade level outside is pretty standard height (around 7" or so).

We're not home right now, and contractor just asked us if we want joints in the concrete. Would have been nice if he would have discussed this with me while we were home yesterday when I signed off on the form layout.

Are relief joints useful/needed in steps this size? We're in Southern CA so it doesn't get super cold here but we do have the occasional earthquake that shifts things a bit.
