A friend of mine is a mountain climber, and went there for what was supposed to be 3 weeks. He was flown into the mountain ranges so he climb a bunch of 10,000 foot peaks, with friends. (He didn't invite me, thank goodness). The guide flew in and left them with a bear gun, to protect him from polar bears.
So when it was time to pick him up three weeks later, the plane that was supposed to pick him up crashed. His satellite phone was dying and they couldn't send out another plane for another week. He said he almost literally starved to death, and was so tired when he had to shoot at a polar bear, he missed, but it ran away. I advised him that although I like adventure travel, he's taking it a bit too far.
This is the same friend who sailed from England to Svalbard this past summer over a several week period. He's crazy.
Is there anything sane to do in Greenland?
