He seems to be a great person, a great coach and a great husband and Dad. But never did he strike me as loyal to BYU. Frankly, I doubt he will be loyal to any school, and the schools have all shown scant loyalty to anyone that doesn’t win. Pretty much like everybody else I guess.
Perhaps I hope for more because I am not a fan of convenience. I truly love this school and the church it represents. But I’m not surprised when I find that others don’t. Although it feels odd to me, I understand that many people who love the church hate BYU, like many church members who are USU alums. Not to imply that Pope hates BYU, I really doubt that, nor do I feel that in leaving BYU, he has shown any disrespect to the school or the church. He is simply being loyal to himself. Best wishes to him. Hope he finds great success wherever his career takes him. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
