We take our Bernadoodle to a groomer once a week. While waiting for my puppy to be finished I asked her some questions about her business... and wowza!
* She's 22 years old.
* Graduated from "Utah School of Pet Grooming"... and got her 'CERTIFIED PET GROOMER' and 'ANIMAL PSYCHOLOGY(?!?)' papers?license?printout?
* Spent 2 years working for another groomer learning the business.. she decided to specialize in Doodle hair (hair problems, care, and styling)
* Opened up her own grooming business out of her house.
* She now has a waiting list of clients due to demand. She doesn't take appointments, you get added to her client list and get scheduled a day and time (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly). She can also charge more than 'generic' groomers because she's a "Doodle Expert" (It says so on her social media... so it must be true)
I started doing the math and WOW.. That is a crazy ROI on a 4-month training class.
People who take their doodles to a groomer every week want a specific 'look' / cut. (puppy cut, teddy bear, lion, kennel, summer... etc) so there is some skill to it, and you have to know/learn how to handle dogs... but still.
A great example of looking for a new market (doodle fad) combined with social media marketing (people want their dogs on her feed). It's too bad she already knows my son (no chance of them dating and getting me a discount on grooming 🙂 )
