affects who they would hire to coach the team now?
Seems like the main reason for not wanting Burgess is because it's assumed he would head back to Utah as soon as that job opens up. Who cares? If he's successful enough at BYU that Utah would want him, then that's good for BYU even if it would suck for the Utes to take him from us.
Seems like the same people not wanting Burgess are the ones that want Fueger. You don't think bigger programs would come after him if he had success at BYU? Who cares? If he's successful enough at BYU that a bigger school steals him away - then that's a good thing for BYU.
It's rare that a coach stays at one place long term anymore. There might in the future be a coach that thinks BYU is their dream job and wouldn't seriously consider leaving - but I don't think that coach exists yet. Until then, let's hope our coaches are getting poached every five years or so because that means BYU is being successful.
