Pope doesn't strike me as a guy who cares more about that than about his own career. I'm glad he came here and I'm glad he was a good coach, but it would be nice to have a lavell Edwards type figure who stays here for many years despite many other opportunities, because he cares about advancing the mission of BYU and the church through sports.
Lavell sent off many assistants to other programs who had a lot of success, but he was the rock that always stayed here. Even Steve Cleveland, Danny Ainge, and guys like that go off and do other things at other organizations, but they still feel like guys who are most closely aligned with BYU and its mission. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think we're going to view Pope that way in 10 years.
