Yes, me too. There are too many on CB who seem to just want to be "contrary"
and act smug, like everyone else is just "stupid people," rather than respectfully allowing others to have a differing opinion or conclusion.

I too, have multiple posts in the past where I made it clear that when the Kentucky job came calling, that Pope would take it, and be gone, and I'm certainly not the only one. He has always had aspirations in that direction, which is not necessarily bad of him, but it is the reason he left BYU the first time to coach UVU.

So, it's not surprising at all that he's leaving, but it is still disappointing, especially if we lose a bunch of players, as BYU was finally seemingly on the cusp of something loyal fans have been waiting for for years - just one week ago, we had finished a pretty solid run in the B12, had many great players coming back, and were listed in every pre-season top 25 poll, for the 1st time since Jimmer, and the 2nd time I believe since Ainge. So to be disappointed is understandable, and I'm 100% with you. Let's commiserate as fans, rather than eviscerate our fellow fans for being disappointed, short-sighted, stupid, whiny, and the meriad of other things people who want to look superior on here often try to establish.

And to claim that "everyone would do the same thing" is just not accurate, although it is certainly becoming more of a thing. While no one can fault Pope for bolting to UK, his alma mater, where he experienced the pinnacle of college basketball, and where the financial piece, and the ability to reach those heights again, are very attainable.

But, in a general sense, the coaching and player merry-go-round is still a disappointing development for all involved, including millions of fans. What it does is demonstrate where we are at in our current world, and that doesn't make it OK, or better, or just something we should all accept. Would Lavell have bolted? I doubt it. But that was a different world, when people valued more the process of building something special against the odds, with dedication, perseverance, loyalty, and integrity, more than many valued money and "arriving" at a dream. There is just to much of an emphasis on"arriving" in our present world, than getting there through one's own hard work. The prevailing theme is take it if you can get it. Sadly, in today's world, if one can "arrive," they are less concerned with how they get there, and what the ramifications are for those within their sphere.
