I see a lot of pessimism about the upcoming pick for a mascot. Is it an easy thing to do these days? I was thinking about teams that changed their mascots recently:

Washington Wizards
New Orleand Pelicans
Cleveland Guardians
Washington Commanders

I’m sure there are more, but these came to my mind. None of these are great. Only the Pelicans seems fun as I like saying “Pels”, but the mascot isn’t really a great one for gear or interest.

Who has really nailed it? Even for expansion teams, it’s tough:

Diamondbacks
Bobcats
Hornets
Kraken
Golden Knights
Texans

Those are some of the recent ones. The Kraken is the only one I would personally give an A to. Diamondbacks isn’t bad and is probably my personal #2 on the list. What’s the take home? The name will be ridiculed by many and more than likely won’t be great.
