Seriously, BYU can only hire an extremely limited group of head coaching candidates because they have to be* members of the church, so much that we are seriously having debates about guys who are currently coaching high school or who had like a 25% winning percentage at a Big Sky school.
But I think it’s noticeable than most of the candidates are not “BYU guys.” Madsen. Burgess. Jensen. Young. Lewis. Perry. Robinson.
How is it that none of like the 7 possible head coaches even went to BYU? That’s a problem. We are going to continue to have this same problem until some kind of BYU-LDS pipeline starts.
Maybe Lee Cummard needs to go get a men’s assistant coaching job. Holmoe should help Nate Austin branch out and get more experience. I don’t even know who else is out there at this point.
*for all intend and purposes. We all know it’s not a hard and fast rule, but who knows if they’d break it for men’s basketball. I doubt it. Not the point of this post.
