A few thoughts on the hiring of Kevin Young
Many of you are thinking this is a stepping stone to an NBA job, but this is a guy who did not need that. Rumors have it he was offered the Nets job and even if not he was going to get an NBA head coaching job soon.

As such, money is not the MOST important thing to Young. He likely would have made more in the NBA.

The one job he may want being from Utah is the Jazz job. This position WOULD be a great stepping stone for that particular job.

But I think he chose to be BYU head coach for three big reasons:

1. Commitment. He was just offered a 7 year deal at BYU and barring a scandal like the on that hit Crowton he will likely be here for all of that or at least most of it even if he fails mightily.

2. Better work life balance. Being an NBA coach means 41 regular season away games on top of pre-season (often all away from your home) and post season. BYU played like 10 games away from Provo last year. There will be recruiting trips, but he will spend a lot more nights in his own bed with his family.

3. He is from Utah and my guess is that is where he wants his family to be. For someone with the financial security that he has, living where you want to be is huge. It sounds like his wife went to BYU and it is probably a good guess (I have no idea) she has family in Utah.
