If you put the money you would have spent on the Toyota tax into an account and

buy a used American car with about 100k miles, that $2k you will save over a Toyota or Honda of same age and mileage will cover a lot of potential repairs. And you should be able to get 200k miles from any small American car without major issues if maintained.
