...and not allowing them to be earmarked or come with strings. That's been a thing that in the past has frustrated and likely discouraged some big money contributions from happening because the school would insist money couldn't come with strings attached and that if donated the school would use it as they see fit and not necessarily how the donor wanted.
This hire doesn't happen without the contributions financially from Smith and in years past former BYU administration wouldn't have let one guy come in with a wad of cash like that to influence an outcome. It would gladly take the money then spread it out to help struggling programs and spread the wealth across multiple depts/teams etc. Pres Reese had some influence in allowing this process to work in the way it did. We wouldn't have KY if we had to follow the traditional BYU way.
