Nobody designs an offense for people to stand around dribbling. And yet...
you see it all the time. In college, it happens less, because coaches are more powerful in college. But in the NBA, what are you going to do? Booker/LeBron/Kyrie/Mitchell etc. are all a hundred times more important than you are.

I'm absolutely certain KYoung didn't design offenses around Booker or KD chucking up late-shot-clock contested 20-footers, but that's a lot of what the Suns did. Maybe they can go back to being relatively fluid now that the games matter, and maybe they can't. We'll see. There are a lot of other teams like the Suns out there, which is why OKC somehow is the #1 seed in the West--that's a young, hungry team that will play very hard so they can stay in OKC when the next tidal wave of draft picks comes in. But now it's the playoffs. Everyone (well, okay, most everyone) plays hard in the playoffs. See Sacramento, 2023.

So I expect KYoung's "system", whatever that actually is, to be pretty good. Also, I well remember that Pope's "system" turned out to be really, really good when he got a passing big man on the floor, where the year before it appeared to consist of a 26-foot weave. I'm not concerned that Young will be unable to design an effective offense--I'm more concerned that our players will be unable to run it because they're not very good. Might take a couple years for that to mesh.

I'm happy to be patient. I like this guy.
