Listen I don't think Mark Pope was the horrible hire that many of you
think he is at Kentucky. But it is crazy that fans wanted Calipari out of there.

Some numbers:
He is the winningest active coach in men's college basketball with a record of 855-262 (.765), including a 410-122 mark in 15 seasons at Kentucky (2009-24), 214-69 in nine seasons at Memphis (2000-09) and 189-71 in eight seasons at UMass (1988-96).

He took UMass to a Final Four. He took Memphis to the National Title game and 3 Elite Eights. He had 4 Final Four appearances in his first 6 years at Kentucky including a National Championship.

I get it, he has only won one tournament game in the past 5 years (really 4 as they looked good to do some things in the Covid year). In two out of the last 3 years they have lost as a #2 seed and a #3 seed in the first round. But man could that guy recruit and he had a great class setup for next year.

To go from all of that to Pope is...well to say a big step down. Now it wouldn't surprise me if Pope surprised a lot of people. But to go from a guy with 6 Final Four appearances to a guy without a tournament victory is a massive change.

Oh and as a BYU fan I love to cheer for former BYU guys in the pro leagues. Did I mention these guys all played for him and then went on to the NBA, you might recognize a couple:
Anthony Davis, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Devin Booker, Jamal Murray, Derrick Rose, Karl Anthony-Towns, John Wall, De'Aaron Fox, Julius Randle, Marcus Camby, Demarcus Cousins, Tyreke Evans, Bam Adebayo, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Malik Monk, Nerlens Noel, Tyrese Maxey, Tyler Herro, Dajuan Wagner, Eric Bledsoe, Darius Miller, Keldon Johnson, Chris Livingston, Hamidou Diallo, Immanuel Quickley, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Skal Labissiere, Brandon Knight, Oscar Tshiebwe, Kevin Knox, PJ Washington, James Young, Willie Caulie-Stein, Trey Lyles, Terrance Jones, Marquis Teague, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rodney Carney, Daniel Orton, Johnny Juzang, Aaron Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Patrick Patterson, Tyler Ulis, Jacob Toppin, Deandre Liggins, Archie Goodwin, Isiaiah Briscoe, Doron Lamb, Cason Wallace, Kyle Wiltjer, Tyty Washington, Earl Barron, Darius Washington, Nick Richards, Wenyen Gabriel, Dakari Johnson, Brandon Boston, Olivier Sarr, Alex Poythress, Antonio Burks, Isaac Humpries, Mychal Mulder, Joey Dorsey, Isaiah Jackson, Ashton Hagans, Antonio Anderson, Lou Roe, Josh Harrelson, Shawne Williams
