Detmer & Kalani SEEMED like home-run hires to many fans on CB once upon a day, too.
I do think KY as a bball HC is a clearly better hire than Detmer was as a FB OC or Kalani as a HC...
but Kevin as a TON more to prove as D1 HC than does Pope, imo.
Is Kevin a better overall hire as a bball HC than Pope was in 2019-20? I think so. But it's at least debatable.
That said, I'm very hopeful of Kevin's success at BYU. But like Pope, we should expect him to take his share of lumps & to have his struggles. The Big 12 is NOT an easy conference, & BYU is STILL transitioning into the big competition jump. That was true BEFORE Pope up-&-appropriated our arguably best instate signing since Shawn Bradley.
