With every leader there are pluses and minuses. Pope's continual hyperbole was effective for some people and injected enthusiasm into most things that he did. The downside to hyperbole is that whenever just about everything is "the best ever" or somebody's performance was "super, super great", all you know is that Pope generally liked it, but you immediatley question just how good something really was on the scale. Over-hyping also can cast doubt on the sincerity of the communication, which is why I think some people labelled him a "phoney". That is a bit harsh IMO, but I know some people hold that opinion.
Young seems to be easier to interpret and might engender more trust, from what little I have seen and read of him.
