Something about wanting to be able to spend more time with his team and coaches preparing for games, or some such crazy reason.
Prior to that, the USU and BYU coaches would travel to SLC once a week and the media would meet with the football coaches of BYU, USU, and Utah at the same time. After that, media had to talk to the schools separately on their campuses.
Gordon Monson was particularly angry about that and the arrogance of BYU in breaking up the long-held tradition of that weekly gathering.
