CA isn't better than Utah in many things, but this is one of them
It is absolutely absurd that Layton Christian is allowed to go out and recruit talented athletes and then compete against normal public schools. In a way, it reminds me of another large debate in our country where certain athletes are being robbed of titles and recognition by being forced to compete against others with unfair inherent advantages. The kids at Cottonwood were robbed of a state title this year, likely their one shot at such an achievement.

In California, the top private schools recruit and amass top talent similar to the way Layton Christian does it. But instead of having the best compete against normal public schools, the top teams in CA are placed in an Open Division. When you go out and recruit top talent, it almost looks like your team is playing a different sport. It's just wrong. UHSAA needs to imitate California and put these schools in their own division.
