I know you have all been wondering what I think about NIL, so here goes...
1. The goal of NIL is a good one, allowing players to get a cut of the money that they make for so many other people. It's a shame that great college players made millions for their colleges but never saw a dime.

2. It was my understanding that schools cannot "pay to play", but that is basically what is happening. Schools might not be directly writing the checks, but are facilitating the whole thing, which seems off to me. Instead of "We will pay you $300k to play here" the conversation is "There is a local chain of car washes that will pay you $300k to play here". In my opinion, schools should have to wait until after a player has signed to facilitate deals or talk about dollars. I know that won't ever happen because it would be near impossible to enforce.

3. NIL being rolled out around the same time as the transfer sit out a year rule was taken away has created free agency every offseason. I've said it 100 times and will keep saying it. If NIL stays then there HAS to be some deterrent for transferring. I think that sitting a year (and not being allowed to do any NIL while you sit) would have the biggest immediate impact. Other solutions could be minimum signing periods (as in, when you sign with a school you are committing at least 2 years), NIL salary caps for each school.

4. I wonder how long boosters will be cool with players taking their money for a year and then bolting for somewhere else. I think it is just a matter of time before we see a player get sued for not fulfilling the terms of an NIL agreement. The benefit to a business is that fans of the local team have an affinity for the team/players and will create one with the brand as well. I'd be much more excited about paying money for a 3-4 year player who will always be a legend of that school versus a guy who is a 1 year rental and will end up playing at other schools too.

5. I honestly think there is no point in recruiting HS anymore. Scout players from other schools and get them from the portal. Recruiting a high schooler, especially at BYU with missions, is a loooooong process and someone else will end up getting the reward of our development efforts. Dallin Hall is a perfect example, we wait him out on a mission, let him struggle a bit last year to learn, then this year he has a few bumps early but figures it out and looks like he'll be a stud for us for the next two years, just for him to (likely) leave and for someone else to benefit from us being patient with him as he developed.
