Dan Hurley on recruiting . . .
Just saw a brief 3-minute video from recent two-time national championship coach Dan Hurley. On the topic of recruiting guys, very interesting. Not posting a link due to a bit of language, but in summary, he states about recruiting:

"Bringing in the 19th ranked player who is delusional, selfish, has crazy parents and grassroots coaches that are ticking down the days until he enters the draft.. Trying to avoid bringing in people like that.”

He goes on to discuss what he looks for - are guys selfish; do they have the "disease of me"; do they avoid and pout when coming off the court after a mistake; do they connect with other players; are the parents psychotic. He notes he is brutally honest with them, but they need to come and play for the university and not just for themselves.

Sounds a lot like what UK fans were griping about with the Calipari recruiting approach, meaning, those players are what he is trying to avoid in recruiting. Also, a strong echo of what many fans across the country are concerned about with NIL and transfer portal craziness. "The disease of me" - Dan Hurley said it. Not me. Pretty interesting.

You could see the team concept strongly in his teams the last two years. Hope we can keep that team focus at BYU while also giving the players their due, if that makes sense.
