My peeve with NIL and BYU players
In the real world individuals don’t determine the value of their NIL but the market does it. Your value is only worth what a business is willing to pay you to be associated with their brand.

If nobody’s willing to pay you what you want or think you’re worth, the market is telling you you’re not worth that much.

NIL is backwards. These players are issuing $ demands based upon what others may be getting and not based upon the value businesses or fans feel their NIL is worth. If Ritchie or Dallin were really worth what they are asking, there would be a line of businesses offering it to them. They are the ones that should be pitching their value to get a business to pay them what they are worth. If you’re not making enough, that’s your problem, not mine.

As a fan of BYU sports I feel like I do my part by donating a substantial amount of $ to the AD and buying prime tickets for the past 25 years.

When Guys like Dallin and Ritchie thumb their nose at the offers from the BYU fan base I take it very personal.

I have no problem with players getting paid. They deserve it. But it should be coming from the value they create with their talents, name, likeness and image. They should get a share of tickets or TV money. Thats the one place to my do move the needle. It shouldn’t be up to fans to pay that tab on top of what we already spend. That’s the rub for me.

The fans are the ones that collectively have funded the opportunity for these players to have visibility and be compensated because they play for a team we support.

The only players that are doing NIL the way it was intended are the major stars like Caitlin Clark who is paid by Nike, State Farm and others to lend her name and image to their brands. Or Olivia Dunn or the Cavinder twins who have massive followings in social media and create their own value.

The players do lend their image and talents to BYU but BYU can’t pay them for it. Thats the only brand that Dallin Hall and Ritchie benefit.

When are the adults in the room going to step up and fix this mess? Even if Dallin and Ritchie come back to BYU, I’ll be happy, but I will be less of a fan of theirs because they demonstrated their true feelings towards the fans by the way they have conducted themselves in this process. Zero loyalty and all greed
