Seems like they are grossly overpaying for an average candidate or below average for UK standards. Why not say they’ll beat BYU salary by $500k and then make the contract heavily incentive based with 2 or 3 times the normal payout for sweet16/elite8/final4/championships? Pope was desperate for the job and with his abysmal post season track record should have had close to zero negotiating power. I know that pope was close to their last pick but it’s not like pope had to know about that during the process. I’m sure he would have taken the job for significantly less than what he got.
