what happens afterwards. Getting a big deal in the door takes a lot of effort from every level of an organization. Whether it is C-Suite sponsor, tech sponsor, legal sponsor, etc. It takes a ton of people moving together to get it over the finish line. And once you get it over the finish line there is a lot of high-fives and pats on the back. The problem is the actual work comes with implementing the deal. But a lot of times the implementation is half-baked and poorly done because you were just worried about landing it.
Seems kind of like BYU bball right now. Great job on getting KY in the door from every level at BYU, and there is a lot of praise to go around, but no one thought through the "now what," plan after they got him in. Especially bad if there was an agreement to let him coach the playoffs. I don't think it was the wrong call to let him continue coaching just that there should be someone at BYU helping to shepherd efforts to keep everything together and move the program forward. The real work on building a successful program wasn't just getting KY hired. it is what happens afterwards.
