unctoothman To extract or not to extract..
I've done it a few times. It's ok; not as good of an outcome as braces, but something is often better than nothing.
If you are going to do it, I recommend an ortho (which sounds like your plan) simply because of how many times I've had to bail dentists out who took a few weekend courses but really had no idea mechanically or occlusally what they were trying to do. If you wouldn't go to your orthodontist to have him do a crown or veneer for you (which makes sense, because although he could do it once upon a time he doesn't do it all the time anymore), you probably don't want to go to a general dentist to do something he never had much training to do in the first place and likely offering the service strictly as a means to generate revenue.
