OK, how much does a coach's NBA experience help a college player?
I want to understand exactly HOW having an NBA head coach and possibly an assistant coach makes high school players want to come play at BYU. Is the idea that they are going to run an offense and defense they are familiar with and that this will mean that the players on that team will end up more NBA-ready than they would be playing in a program where the coach has been in the college game their entire coaching career? It's not like simply having a coach with contacts and connections in the NBA is going to help you land on an NBA roster.

I'm guessing its no deeper than what I described above. I'm just wondering whether this is as compelling as BYU fans are convincing themselves it is.

What ranks higher for a recruit: (1) a highly rated college program with other top talent and a good chance of postseason success, or (2) a lower ranked program with a former NBA coach? I would think the chance of having a successful college career and winning a lot of games and having postseason success would outweigh the benefits that come from playing for a successful former NBA coach.

I'm hoping BYU got a great one in Kevin Young. I just think whether this is true will be determined much more by his coaching skill and ability to recruit than by his NBA experience.
