the program absolutely became stronger with Pope that it was when he took over.
It was easier for Pope to recruit with the Big 12 announcement and joining, but he lived up to that in year 1 of big 12 play. BYU hadn't made the NCAA tournament round of 64 in Rose's last 5 seasons. Pope made it there in either 50% or 60% of his BYU seasons (percentage depends on whether you want to give him credit for the covid year with NCAA tournament cancellation).
