I think both the article and the $30M are likely both correct. BYU is directly

paying less than $30M. Donor(s) are paying some, but the article is not mentioning it, because it could be considered "not salary". BYU has had the "Coaches Circle" for years for donors to help increase coach salary. I'm sure it is easy to use word play to make all of 1. less than $30M and 2. $30M or more and 3. BYU is paying the full contract salary true.
