Hopefully things like this are rare but I am not so sure
A close friend called me last night asking me to keep my eyes open for any jobs. Said he just needs $60k per year to "keep the credit cards flowing". He and his wife just had their first baby. He quit a $300k+ job a few years ago because he didnt have enough time to travel and felt stressed. Ever since, he has struggled to stay employed despite landing great jobs in a high income profession. He is (or was) out of touch with reality that he has to create value to get paid big money consistently. He burns bridges and quits jobs out of pride and laziness. It seems his choppy resume has finally caught up with him and the few offers he has received are low pay part time 90 day probation type offers. I told him he has to take whatever he can get and wake up. He disagrees and believes a flexible WFH $60k job is humbling himself enough.

He has a fleet of cars and a $2 million home with enough runway to pay the mortgage for another couple months. Supposedly $60k a year will stretch that significantly combined with his wife going back to work in a few months. Even then he also shared that they have a rate buy down that ends next summer. If he can't land another high paying job by then, it wont matter and they will have to unload the home.

I am close enough to this guy that I knew his lifestyle was a facade but this is a little worse than I thought it was. I am pretty frustrated with the guy but dont have anywhere else to vent without throwing him under the bus. He has been an excellent friend and I am very sad he is being so stubborn in the face of losing everything.
