People mention overspending on autos and houses, but I think most people, if
they truly measured how much they spend on dining out and convenience foods, their jaws would hit the floor.

I can't believe how expensive it is to eat out, and I know lots of people that do it so much. What does it cost to go out to lunch at a regular place these days? $12-15 average? That is over $3,000 a year. Do the math on that for a lifetime, including the cost of money. Go to dinner once a week with your family? Probably another $5,000 a year. Two or three nights a week? Now you are in five digits...every...single...year for a lifetime. Sure, you can go to MCD's or Wendy's and buy specials on the apps to make it cheaper, but you probably shouldn't be eating too many meals that way if you want your heart to keep working.

For some, dining is very important and how they choose to spend their money. I just hope they realize just how much it is and recognize the opportunity cost. Educated decision versus haphazard decision. When people hit their 40's, but more so their 50's or 60's, I hear a lot of regrets about how they didn't plan for their future.
